Lake Champlain

Lots of fish for everyone.

Lake Champlain is now known as one of the best freshwater fishing spots in the United States. It's a unique "two-storey" fishery offering top-notch bass and pike action as well as exceptional landlocked salmon, lake trout and brown trout fishing.

It's that combination of warmwater/coldwater species that attracts scores of anglers to the United States' sixth-largest freshwater lake each season - including professional bass fishermen that have given Champlain rave reviews every visit.

While the lake is clear, clean and very scenic, it is rocky and not appropriate for very young children without proper supervision. Water shoes are recommended. Knight's Point Beach is 20 minutes away on Route 2. The State Park is minutes north of the house and the swimming area is much less rocky and suitable for all ages of children.

Winter Ice Fishing

The lake comes alive in the winter with ice fishing villages.

In the winter, the lake turns into a community unto itself, as fishing shanties sprout from the ice as early as late December. Action is fast and furious for smelt, perch, pike, lakers and landlocks up and down the shore in what has become a Champlain winter tradition.
